Early lung cancer detection
Screening for lung cancer
Lung cancer is the largest cause of death from cancer in the UK and clinical trials have shown that patients who are diagnosed with lung cancer following screening have a higher rate of survival.
Lung cancer screening for people judged to be at ‘high-risk’ who may not show any symptoms have been shown to save lives. This is because lung cancers detected through screening tend to be at an earlier stage than those that cause symptoms and so can be treated more effectively and are more likely to be cured.
